Risk: Informational
Internet addresses corresponding to recent bank mergers are already being hoarded and sold online.
It is called "cybersquatting" when likely addresses are bought cheaply in the hope of selling to the businesses involved, or as a medium for advertising.
For instance with the recent merger of Lloyds TSB/HBOS, domain names have been purchased. Speculation surrounding the merger meant that lloydstsbhbos.com and hboslloydstsb.com were snapped up.
Many cybersquatters have pay-per-click ads as revenue generators while awaiting potential buyers.
