A critical Linux wifi flaw has been discovered that can enable attackers to gain remote control of a machine, even when it is not on a wifi network.

The flaw was discovered by Laurent Butti, a researcher for France Telecom Orange. Butti presented it at the recent Black Hat conference in Amsterdam after having shared it with the MadWi-Fi development team, which was subsequently able to write and issue a patch. Although the patch is now available, it's thought that not all Linux distributions will have built it into their code, in which case, users should manually patch the MadWi-Fi driver.
