The recent storms experienced in northern Europe have prompted some spammers to circulate a virus called Small.DAM. The virus is circulating as an email attachment that is purportedly a video clip of the storms in action.

In fact, opening the attachment installs a backdoor on the user's PC that enables virus writers to gain full remote access to their system. Some of these systems may also be being used as part of a bot network.

As always, the advice to prevent yourself from becoming a victim is to never open email attachments that are sent from unfamiliar sources.
