A disgruntled former UBS Paine Webber employee caused $3 million worth of damage by unleashing a logic bomb onto the company's network. Roger Duronio worked at UBS for two years as a sysadmin, was paid a salary of $125,000 and expected a bonus of $50,000 in 2002. When he received a $32,000 bonus, he resigned and decided to take revenge on the bank. He created a logic bomb which would delete all the files in the host server in the central data centre and then every server in every branch. On 4th March 2002, 2000 servers went down and 400 branch offices were hit; backup systems did not work and files were deleted.

Duronio was sentenced recently, receiving 97 months in prison without parole, and was ordered to pay $3.1 million to UBS Paine Webber.
