Numerous versions of Sophos Anti-Virus have been affected by an error that arises when processing files compressed with Petite that contain a large number of sections.

The flaw can be exploited to enable the scanning engine to allocate a large amount of memory via a specially crafted file, causing system resources to be exhausted.
