At the beginning of September, a hacker broke into a database containing information about 650,000 users of the online game Second Life. Since the security breach, all members have been asked to reset their passwords, as it is unclear which personal records were accessed by the hacker.

Second Life is an online world that allows users to live out another existence. Members choose an avatar then use it to explore the Second Life world, buying property, hosting parties and generally having a lot of fun.

Second Life 'residents', or users, have various levels of membership, ranging from a free basic membership to a chargeable premium account that enables residents to buy property and land and take advantage of sign-up and referral incentives.

According to Linden Lab, the creator of Second Life, a second database that contained unencrypted credit card details was unaffected.
